Paul Smith’s spring/summer collection 2017 takes us back to the 60s, time of peace and freedom. This mood is present in every single piece of the collection and of course in the way of presentation. Smiling models and their hairstyles made me think about this era, when I wasn’t even born and that I heard about only through films and literature.
Paul Smith as a brand is characterized by the use of many colors. It also perfectly reflects the mood of the collection and the colors of freedom and diversity. For instance, suits were made in yellow, green, orange and purple, but not only, because there was also a multicolor tartan version as well. The catwalk itself was a colorful path going all around the hall of spectacular Bourse de Commerce. Another interesting element was the t-shirt print with Peace that confirms again the idea of the designer to evoke the 60s. The entire collection, even if inspired by the tailoring in the mentioned era has a contemporary background. All materials are light and breathable such as the ones usually used for sportswear which makes this collection both comfortable and fashionable. The cast for the show has been chosen in order to represent the multicutlural spirit of London, hometown of the brand.
I strongly admired this collection by Paul Smith and I hope that the following year will be a year of peace and love. Between love and hate we should always go for love and we should look for it all around us. There shouldn’t be any space for hate.
