Louis Vuitton has always been one of the most inspiring brands for me, definitely because of the art of travel concept that has been present in every single collection, reinterpreted in a different and contemporary way every season. The next Spring-Summer 2018 collection that was presented in Paris and that I had the opportunity to see and feel during Paris Men’s Fashion Week was inspired by the islands and travel. Islands have rich culture and in this instance Hawaii was the island of major inspiration for Kim Jones.
Exotic prints, colorful knitwear and other vivid patterns characterize the ready to wear part of the collection. Many sportswear elements are present in this collection, for example the Louis Vuitton logo has been redesigned and it looks more like a sports club logo which revokes the world of surf and water sports, very characteristic for the islands. As it is a Spring-Summer collection, light fabrics remain essential. Since the inspiration was also related to the water sports, technical silk as a fabric has been used as well.
And at the end, my favorite part, the accessories. I loved different reinterpretations of the iconic Monogram Keepall bag: double colored combinations for example. Bags are also accompanied by many tags that remind of airport bag tags ndicating the destination. Great mixture of sportswear and fashion is definitely most evident in accessories, a monogram canvas backpack has been reinterpreted as a sports accessory. Also the large zippers and bag straps confirm the sporty mood of this collection. Other accessories such as necklaces keep the tradition and authenticity of the island cultures. This collection definitely stands for a modern man that wants to stay comfortable, sporty and to be always on the go.
